- Description University commissioned concrete relief sculpture for the Beeksma inner courtyard. The title, Ex Vetere, means created “out of the old”. We often speak of God creating ex nihilo to refer to the creation of the world out of nothing. Ex vetere is used to describe the new creation, which takes up and makes new all things. In this case, it points to the process of making something new out of what already is, and the role of artist as sub-creator. Ex Vetere evokes something ancient and mysterious, and the Latin title has a weightiness which is fitting for the material from which the sculpture is made.
