- Description The totem pole was erected on Community Building Day, September 25, 1991, which highlighted Native American heritage. The pole was carved by Michael Paul, a carver with 30 years experience, and partially paid for by the ASWC Native American Club. The symbols carved on the pole, beginning from the top and working down are: Eagle, traditionally placed at the top of the pole; Coyote, seeker of knowledge; Turtle, symbolizing love; Beaver, a hard worker, always doing his best; Native American, symbolizing man.
