- Description This carved green stone sculpture depicts a polar bear standing on all fours with a salmon in its mouth. Incised on the bottom of its paw are Chinese characters and the date 1989. The material appears to be jade nephrite. This is not a traditional Chinese subject but polar bears are typical of several Eskimo, Inuit, and Canadian First Nations peoples.
