• Notes Opal Fleckenstein, born in Macksville, Kansas in 1911, was a painter and teacher at various institutions. She studied at the University of Washington and Washington State University and eventually she received a teaching certificate from Gooding (ID) College and taught in North Idaho. In 1939, she moved to Spokane, Washington and began teaching for the Works Progress Administration.
