  • Notes Silvano depicts large-scale commercial agriculture in this oil painting. Since 1926, when Firestone signed a concessionary agreement with the government of Liberia to establish a massive rubber plantation, Firestone has been Liberia’s leading employer and the largest source of income for the government. The Firestone concession eventually became the world’s biggest rubber plantation. The two figures are in the process of working for Firestone, the left carrying buckets of raw latex and the right tapping a rubber tree.
