- Notes Although the ethnic roots of this statue are uncertain, the elongated animal-like head, the narrow body, thin arms, and projections from the top of the head suggest it is related to either the Senufo or Bambara people of the Ivory Coast. Because carvers were permitted great artistic freedom and commonly borrowed from other groups, styles and subjects were not static.
