  • Notes The Salampasu, who live in south-central Congo near the border of Angola, are a decentralized people. They are governed and defended by warrior societies headed by the Kalamba Kambanji or the “men of wealth.” This warrior society attracts young men seeking reward, be it loot, women, or ascent in rank among the Kalamba Kambanji. This mask is one of a multitude used during different initiation ceremonies.
