  • Notes The blanket is made from six, nine-inch-wide handwoven strips of sheep’s wool. One of Africa’s largest ethnic groups, the Fulani originated in Senegal and gradually pushed eastward as far as northern Nigeria. The Fulani who live closer to the desert are semi-nomadic herders. The blanket is known as "Khasa," spun and dyed by women then woven into long strips by men using a double heddle loom. "Khasa" blankets are often given as wedding gifts and used as room dividers in Fulani tent dwellings, as seating mats and as blankets during colder months.
