  • Notes IDASA (Institute for a Democratic Alternative for South Africa) in 1993 commissioned Israel Mashigo to produce ten large color posters dealing with the most critical electoral issues. The printed posters along with a training manual were placed in a “You Can Vote” kit to be used by people leading voter education workshops in rural areas all over South Africa. Many rural people had never been given the opportunity to vote using a ballot specifically in a nationwide election. Here we see a simplified sample ballot using symbols to stand for a party. Workshop facilitators were instructed to use the ballot to start conversations about the role of political parties, leaders and political symbols.
