  • Notes IDASA (Institute for a Democratic Alternative for South Africa) commissioned Israel Mashigo to produce ten large color posters dealing with the most critical electoral issues in 1993. The printed posters along with a training manual were placed in a “You Can Vote” kit to be used by people leading voter education workshops in rural areas all over South Africa. This poster is intended to begin a conversation about what people should expect during a campaign. The workshop leader was instructed to emphasize the fact that all parties have a right to campaign, but that no one can obligate any individual to vote for their party. Workshop participants were encouraged to talk about how candidates should persuade voters and the importance of each person deciding for themselves how to cast their ballot.
