  • Notes IDASA (Institute for a Democratic Alternative for South Africa) in 1993 commissioned Israel Mashigo to produce ten large color posters dealing with the most critical electoral issues. The printed posters along with a training manual were placed in a “You Can Vote” kit to be used by people leading voter education workshops in rural areas all over South Africa. This poster shows each step in the voting process from start to finish. The steps include showing one’s ID, checking hands to see if one has already voted, marking hands by dipping fingers into a bowl of dye, receiving a ballot, going to the voting booth to mark the ballot in private and finally dropping the ballot in the box. By explaining the steps, the facilitator familiarizes those who want to vote with the process of what to do in the voting station.
