- Notes IDASA (Institute for a Democratic Alternative for South Africa) commissioned Israel Mashigo to produce ten large color posters dealing with the most critical electoral issues in 1993. The printed posters along with a training manual were placed in a “You Can Vote” kit to be used by people leading voter education workshops in rural areas all over South Africa. This poster shows three fields with crops in different stages of growth. The lesson being taught is the need for patience, specifically in relation to how the benefits of democracy will take time. The depiction of the process of farming is meant to reject the notion that immediate change will come after the elections.
