  • Notes Although Kenyan artist Nicholas Sironka is best known for his batiks depicting aspects of Maasai life he has also painted whimsical representations of modern African life. Sironka’s pictures feature animal subjects engaging in the daily life of humans. This painting is of a giraffe standing at a bus stop and reading a newspaper. His briefcase is decorated with an “I love Kenya” sticker. The front-page story in the imaginary ‘Best News’ seems to be about a cat. The main story on the back page sports section appears to show a turtle running a race. Like many of Sironka’s batiks, this picture contains a prominent circle.
