- Notes Born in Omak, WA Jo Fyfe has been strongly influenced by the heritage of the Plains and Plateau Indians, especially that of Chief Joseph and his people. Jo’s interest is in the spirituality of Native American, both past and present, rather than an imitation of the surface of the “Western Art” theme. Her more recent work playfully and fancifully draws upon the times that she spent with her family fishing, hiking, camping, gardening, and in the outdoors observing nature. Narrative is often hidden within the images. All of her experiences, no matter how great or how small, impact the images in her work. Jo has participated in many one-person, invitational and juried exhibits across the country: her works are included in a number of private, corporate and public collections as far away as Hong Kong, Northern Europe and South Africa. Many works have been purchased in the past 20 years by the Washington State Arts Commission and have become part of the permanent art collections in School Districts throughout the State. Jo has been featured in “Who’s Who in America Art”, and has received a number of awards. She received her Master’s in Fine Arts from Washington State University and was an Art Instructor and Department Chair at Spokane Falls Community College.
