  • Medium Baked Clay
  • Dimensions 7"h x 5.25"w x 3"d
  • Year Completed 1996
  • Description This piece documents the plight of Nairobi’s street children. The sculpture features young boys sniffing glue through their mouths and rummaging in a municipal trash container inscribed with the letters NCC (Nairobi City Council), the words “dust bin,” and the date 1996. On the one hand, an item such as this appeals to tourists fascinated by third world poverty, on the other hand it is an acknowledgement by Kenyan artists of a growing urban juvenile homeless population. Purchased in Nairobi in 1998.
