  • Notes Reid Ozaki is a ceramics artist born in Hilo, Hawaii, and now based in Tacoma, Washington. His artistic aesthetics were inspired by his grandfather’s Japanese inspired gardens and Bonsai. He attended the University of Puget Sound in 1969 where he graduated with a biology degree, but he realized he held greater interest in ceramics. For nearly 50 years Ozaki has been creating work influenced by the ceramic traditions of Japan specifically those related to Japanese Tea Ceremony or Chanoyu. Ozaki is also interested in flower arranging or Ikebana which views the container as an integral part of the whole. Ozaki enjoys making said containers and ensuring that they do not detract from or overwhelm what they are meant to contain. He is retired, but he worked as a teacher for the art department at University of Puget Sound, Pacific Lutheran University and Tacoma Community College.
