- Description Edition 89/129. Within many native tribes Eagle is prominent in dance ceremonies, spiritual beliefs, designs on totem poles, paintings and so on. Our Cowichan (Coast Salish) belief is that Eagle watches over us all, including our elders and children, like a protector. Eagle provides us with spiritual protection and strength throughout our lives. This design depicts Eagle taking flight within Moon. - Manuel Salazar
- Notes About the Artist: Manuel Salazar was born in Seattle in 1966. He is a member of the First Nations and is affiliated with the Cowichan Tribe of Duncan, B.C. His mother is Salish, from Ladysmith, B.C. Salazar began learning the forms of Salish art in his early twenties. He apprenticed with Delmar Johnny and Art Vickers. His style has been inspired by Simon Charlie and Robert Davidson. Salazar has also spent several years working at the Native Heritage center in Duncan, B.C. Salazar's primary mediums are painted drums and prints. His experience and inspirations have enabled him to create a unique, contemporary expression of Salish art. He is hoping to be able to add jewelry and wood carvings to his portfolio in the near future. Currently living in the Seattle area, Manuel is focusing on drum making, printing, and original paintings.
