  • Notes Sironka’s work is a commentary on the Maasai, his people’s way of life. "Enkitung" is the Maasai word for cattle which translates as anxiety. It is the anxiety over cattle that robs the Maasai of his sleep.* When cattle or flocks are stolen, men in the community will organize themselves, within the shortest time possible and form a search party to pursue their adversaries'. Certain individuals have been known to excel in such endeavors and hence are never left out when Maasai men go out on this search, or "enkitung’at." *Irungu Ndirangu, “Artist to display batiks.” ARTSCENE. 1995. *Sironka, Nicholas.
