- Notes Sironka’s work is a commentary on the Maasai, his people’s way of life. Among the Maasai, children are considered a gift from God. Women count it as a blessing each time they are able to conceive and bear children. Kindness and love toward children are values of great importance to the Maasai. Many times, a woman who is unable to have children will pray and ask God to bless her with children. *Sironka, Nicholas. A Gift from God?: Batik Art on the Maasai Culture, 2000.
