  • Notes Sironka’s work is a commentary on the Maasai, his people’s way of life. Children are very important in Maasai culture, often regarded as gifts from God. Kindness and love towards children are values of great importance to the Maasai. Sironka wrote “As to all mothers, a child is a great gift from God. Hence showing love and joy from mother to child is a fountain of affection comparable to none.” *Sironka, Nicholas. A Gift from God?: Batik Art on the Maasai Culture, 2000.
