- Notes Karen Guzak (1939-Present) is a painter, printmaker, and art project developer. She was born in Cambridge Massachusetts but was raised primarily in Boulder Colorado where her father worked as a geologist and her mother as a harpist and weaver. Her parents' careers and interests gave direction to Guzak’s artistic aesthetic revealed through her geometric forms in combination with expressionistic and organic brushwork. Nature is the major inspiration for her work. Guzak has a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology from the University of Colorado in 1961. At the same time, she began taking art classes at night and on the weekends. Later, Guzak returned to school at Cornish College of the Arts, Seattle where she earned a bachelors in art. In 1989 she developed the artist Co-op Sunny Arms, and in 1991, she was the developer of Union Art in Seattle. Guzak has lived in Snohomish, Washington since 2000 where she renovated an old church with her husband, artist Warner Blake to make an art studio named AngelArmsWorks. In addition to her artistic pursuits, Guzak served over 15 years on the Snohomish City Council and was mayor for seven years. She also opened Yoga Circle Studio in 2003 where she currently teaches yoga and meditation.
