  • Description Set of four boxes. Each box measured 14 x 6.25 x 3.25 inches.
  • Notes This series was inspired by materials found in Whitworth’s old Fine Arts building. The original boxes contained microscopes used by the biology department when it occupied the building from 1947 to 1966. In the 1990s, Professor of Art Gordon Wilson discovered the boxes in the ceiling and gave them to Visiting Artist Dan McCann, who then repurposed them for this artwork, dividing up the original boxes into thirds and adding new fronts and locks. McCann said that this series sat in his studio for many years until just recently, when he felt that it was time to return them to Whitworth—their rightful place. Coming full circle, the four boxes are now displayed in the new Robinson Science Hall to commemorate the legacy of the sciences at Whitworth.
