- Notes The Fulani are nomads in Sub-Saharan West Africa. The Fulani have notably finer features and are very colorful in dress. Carved heads such as this are non-traditional and primarily made as portraits for the art market and tourists. The male head wears a head covering of sorts and has thinner lips and a shorter face. Facial hair is carved into the face. Made of either African mahogany or ebony, then stained.
