  • Medium Ceramic
  • Dimensions 14"h x 15"w x 15"d
  • Year Completed Undated
  • Notes The waterpot is traditional in shape and surface design but has a non-traditional glaze. It came from the Pottery Training Center in Abuja, which was a government developed pottery project. It was created by an elderly woman potter who learned here. This pot was used to store water and was made through the coiling technique. The design is quite like Ladi Kwali’s Water Jar made in 1962*. The abstract shapes depict lizards made through the process of sgraffito. Kwali introduced lizard imagery to Abuja. It is likely that the elderly woman who made this pot was taught by Ladi Kwali or wanted to make a replica of her work. *“Ladi Kwali”(Athena Art Foundation)
